3 Small Splurges

I watched a Korean sketch comedy video about the small splurges of three characters who recently started full-time jobs. Their splurges were buying all the sweets, ice cream, and meals they wanted. In a way, they were celebrating their entrance into the post-grad life by doing things they would not have done as students. Disposable income is a wonderful thing.

The video inspired me to think about my small splurges. Here are 3 I would like to share with you.

  1. Unlimited mobile data
    1. A couple days ago, I finally upgraded to an unlimited plan for an extra $10 per month. Prior to the upgrade, I always found myself running out of the 10 GB of data allocated each month with many days left to go in the billing cycle. With my desire to listen to Spotify on my phone while walking or watching YouTube on the train, my reliance on data was growing. I decided to upgrade. College me would have never opted-in for an upgrade. Instead, I would be searching for unsecured, public Wi-Fi networks to siphon off precious morsels of access.
  2. An add-on to a lunch order
    1.  I ordered for pick-up a hamburger from a local joint on my way to the office. The splurge was not the decision to eat out for lunch, but my split-second choice to order two patties, instead of one. For $2 extra, I was able to enjoy the burger even more.
  3. A designer cologne
    1. To celebrate recent successes at work, I decided to buy myself a cologne. Collecting fragrances is a hobby that's been occupying my life since last fall. I love going into Sephora or Ulta to try out new products. The house of Chanel has a cologne called Platinum Egoiste. The retail price for a 50 ml bottle is $96! Furthermore, Chanel never allows their products to go on sale. After trying it out in-store multiple times, I decided to make a grown up decision about my money. It smells awesome and I am glad I bought it.

And that's it!

Thank you for reading.

See you next time.
